It is not necessary to buy a personal printer – there is unlimited printing in Watson library from your laptop and most professors distribute handouts of class material (this same material is also made available for download).
The school also has a few printer/scanner units, which will allow you to scan a document and email it to your @gsb.columbia.edu email address. While photocopies are not free, you can scan documents, and then print the file for free.
